This shop has been set up to generate a profit contribution to the cost of Veterinary bills, medical supplies and food for our rescue centre.
The shop is under development but the aim is to offer practical items to help you help your local hedgehogs and also products that are pleasing to the eye for gifts to yourself, friends and family.
The rescue takes in wild hedgehogs to give first aid and rehabilitation treatment. Some examples of conditions treated are:
strimmer injuries, cars, bonfires and injuries from predators. Becoming stuck in wire fencing left lying around gardens and allotments, goal post netting on playing fields. Nests being disturbed by builders and gardeners. The hazards are endless for them.
Hedgehogs have been in decline over the past 50 years. In the fifties there where estimated to be at least 30 million and now only around a million left in the UK and still declining due to a mix of reasons. Commercial farming practices with pesticides resulting in a loss of insects. Global warming creating late babies being born when food is scarce. Busier roads, not being able to roam from garden to garden due to fences blocking their roaming pathways and many other things too.
